Cookies and similar technologies
In short: cookies are small files. Local storage and session storage are similar. This site uses none of them.
A cookie is a small text file a website saves on your device. Local storage and session storage do the same job in a slightly different way. The ePrivacy rules in the EU treat them all the same.
Why we don't show a cookie banner
In short: we store nothing on your device and our analytics are cookieless, so there is nothing to ask your consent for.
Under the EU ePrivacy Directive (Article 5(3)), a website only needs to ask for consent before storing things on your device that are not strictly necessary. We do not store advertising IDs. We do not run third-party trackers. We do not store anything in your browser: no cookies, no local storage, no session storage. Our analytics tools, Plausible and Vercel Analytics, work without setting any cookies and without identifying you. Showing a banner when nothing is stored would mislead you about what we actually collect.
What we actually use
In short: nothing in your browser — only a short-lived counter on our server that protects the forms from spam.
BIOSAR uses one item only, and it never reaches your browser:
- biosar:contact:* — server-side, a hashed fingerprint of your IP and email address, never sent to your browser. Rate-limits the contact and newsletter forms to stop spam. Lifetime: 1 hour.
We do not place any third-party advertising or social-media cookies.
Analytics
In short: we count visits without knowing who you are.
Plausible Analytics generates daily aggregate counts without setting cookies and without storing any personal data. Vercel Analytics derives a short-lived hash from your request that is reset every 24 hours and cannot be linked across days or sites.
Controlling cookies
In short: your browser is the steering wheel.
You can block cookies and local storage in your browser settings at any time. This site will keep working exactly the same, because it does not rely on them.
