Chamomile extract is a botanical preparation from Matricaria chamomilla flowers, used in skincare to calm reactive skin and reduce visible erythema. Topical chamomile extract is considered acceptable during pregnancy and lactation per Mother to Baby and LactMed. Asteraceae cross-allergy (ragweed, daisy) is a documented but uncommon trigger; patch testing is recommended in atopic individuals.

  • 2 weeksChamomile cream in eczema: marginally better than placebo

    A half-side trial in patients with moderate atopic eczema compared a chamomile cream with 0.5% hydrocortisone and with a placebo cream for 2 weeks. It was mildly better than the hydrocortisone and only marginally better than placebo.
