What it is
Caffeine is a methylxanthine alkaloid used topically in skincare for under-eye puffiness, dark circles, and the appearance of cellulite. It works via vasoconstriction, lipolytic phosphodiesterase inhibition, and antioxidant scavenging of reactive oxygen species. Pairs freely with most actives. No major conflicts.

Topical caffeine produces negligible systemic exposure compared to dietary intake. Mother to Baby and Bozzo (2011) flag topical cosmetic caffeine as acceptable during pregnancy and lactation.
